Our History
In 1880, the Dickie’s Grove Baptist church was birthed at a prayer meeting at a bush harbor in a woody area in the Sandy Creek Community.
The meeting place rested beyond the present New Sandy Creek Baptist Church (Northwest) near the Vicksboro Road. Frank Royster, Anderson Clement, Major Clement, Ellis Foster, and Alexandria Wright, were the visionaries for organizing prayer meetings for the African Americans in the Rocky Brook community.
After the bush harbor experience, these believers mobilized and relocated their prayer meetings to a schoolhouse located near a stream of water called Rocky Brook. The prayer meeting congregation increased to the extent that the idea of a church advanced.
In the 19th century, George Dickie, a caucasian gentlemen gave a tract of land on Faulkner Town Road for the members to build a church. Henceforth, the church was named Dickie’s Grove Baptist Church and presently sits on a 5 acre tract.
